Public procurement objectives

The Public Procurement Workstream has identified a series of objectives to help support better procurement of electronics services and support the UK electronics industry in meeting government needs.

Short term

• Identify and map out the current and future requirements of major public purchasers of electronic products/services across UK government departments.
• Make initial contact with each of them to establish near and long-term opportunities.

Medium term

• Produce a clear industry ‘capability statement’, including SMEs, that can be used by public procurers to source suppliers.
• Identify any gaps compared to user requirements.

Long term

Establish a functioning network of UK electronics companies that meets public procurement goals:

• procurement from SMEs will increase to at least double its 2004 level;
• there will be an ongoing and productive relationship between these companies and key government procurers in the UK; and
• government will be equipped to promote UK capabilities in electronics effectively overseas.
